Most of Team Reach Us- an extraordinary bunch of Super Volunteers
On the 7th March we hosted our biggest annual fundraiser, the highly anticipated and very well supported Superheroes Quiz Night. This year the event was only advertised once before all tables were sold out, with only 18 tables available for general sale and two withheld for sponsors. Thanks to all who attended we raised an amazing amount of just over $19300.
This amount was raised via corporate sponsorship, raffle sales which included a limited 100 ticket raffle of 2 return flights Karratha to Perth thanks to Helloworld Karratha, auction items, ticket sales and bar sales (thanks heaps APEX Karratha for a great job yet again.)
FUN AND GAMES were had throughout the night as we continued the tradition of a paper plane building competition with a Super Mum taking out the competition to roaring approval from the rest of her group of Supermums. We also had the return of bottle toss to see who was the best coin tosser to win the bottles and the introduction of a couple of new games. First one up was Sit Down If..... where we hilariously discovered who owns a boat, who has had sex on their boat, who bought a jeep (only 2 people and they received a free drink in sympathy) who was married and had had marital relations recently- among other details! The other new competition was the introduction of the build a superhero car- out of Lego. We sure did have some big kids in the room who took the challenge very seriously. No instructions were given but they could be purchased for $20 per table. In a twist Ashley and Lauren from Aus Solar purchased every set of instructions. Others were then required to negotiate with them for instructions or to use their own engineering skills to design freestyle. Some awesome creations were entered in the final Lego car race. We also raffled a coronavirus package to the amusement of all in attendance, fetching $300 for a pack of toilet paper, a hand sanitiser, hand wash and face mask. Whilst we all enjoyed the tongue in cheek hilarity of the auction on the night Reach Us Pilbara Inc's thoughts are with all cancer patients and others who are at increased risk of serious infection if they are exposed to Covid 19.
There are a thousand people and businesses we need to thank for making our night a huge success. First to our Silver Sponsor Ray White Karratha, Bronze sponsors KAW Engineering and Aus Solar Co. Your sponsorship of our event is truly appreciated.
Next to our In Kind sponsors Karratha Signs, Fortescue Bus Services, Karratha Florist and APEX- thank you!
And then the many many small businesses who donated prizes, you are massive contributors and the total of funds raised is heavily boosted due to your donations, we cannot thank you enough!
It was a fast paced night with many things to get through and adding in a couple of Live Auctions of Balloons (thanks Jess from Gorgeous Gift Balloons for amazing creations), Carona package and drawing of raffles we just didn't have time for everything so best dressed prizes weren't announced. We are truly impressed every year by the amazing array of costumes and this year was no exception. We awarded best dressed to the Reach Us Superheroes ladies and to Scott for his Firefighting Superman outfit. We all enjoyed tunes by Bryan and Pete to finish the night off with a bit of dancing.
Our final thanks is to all the volunteers who helped us set up helped on the night (including the lovely ladies from the Lions Club) and to all of you Superheroes who attended on the night. Your participation, enthusiasm and support was heart warming! See you next year!
