Cancer Council WA

The Cancer Council has appointed a Kimberley/Pilbara Support Coordinator. Access practical and financial support and whilst in Perth you can also access their wig fitting service, counsellors and free accommodation at Milroy or Crawford Lodges.

The two self-catering accommodation Lodges in Perth offer a home-away-from-home for regional cancer patients and their carers while they access treatments and cancer related appointments in the metro area. The Lodges offer comfortable, clean and safe motel-style accommodation with on-site support services.

Back On Track WA

A first of its kind in WA, the Back on Track initiative will ensure children who go through cancer treatment do not fall through the cracks with their education due to the enormous strain treatment can have.

Regardless of where they live, the Back on Track WA program provides the following services to children who have been diagnosed with and treated for cancer, and their siblings: educational advocacy support during treatment, communication with schools, mentoring/tutoring/social and emotional learning, support for teachers/class members when the child is ready to return to school, support for siblings/parents and work with other childhood cancer agencies to create long-term tailored solutions.

Access to loan equipment that assist with remote education may also be accessed.

Breast Cancer Care WA

A diagnosis of breast cancer can be life-changing and confusing. If you need support with this change, the team can walk you through some, or many parts of your journey, tailored to your specific needs. Your care with could include support from a specialist breast care nurse, one-on-one counselling, support groups, therapy workshops, or practical or financial backup, completely free-of-charge.

Melanoma WA was established with the mission to reduce the impact of melanoma in the WA community. It worked to support people living with melanoma and their carers, families and friends, and to raise awareness about melanoma prevention in WA. Support services include: Melanoma Community Support Nurse, WA Support Groups in various locations, information and resources.

Blue Dot Army is a registered charity advocating for positive change to improve experiences for people affected by cancer. The organization has access to exclusive hotel rates with flexible booking terms and conditions for people undertaking cancer treatment in Perth with options available in both South and East Perth.

Other services include: assistance to organise transport arrangements to attend scheduled appointments, accompany individuals to appointments and shopping, source products and services to assist with accessing additional health services and connection to a dedicated concierge volunteer.

Rare Cancers offers practical support services including emotional support, peer support, practical and social support, financial resources and clinical support to people with a rare type of cancer.

Bowel Cancer Australia

Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) works to ensure that Australians affected by breast cancer receive the very best care, treatment and support appropriate to their individual needs.

Join an online network of other breast cancer patients to ask questions and seek advise, order a free specially designed My Care Kit including a Berlei bra available to any women undergoing surgery for breast cancer and find podcasts and other useful resources on their website.

Canteen

Canteen is an Australian not-for-profit that provides free and tailored support to young people aged 12-25 who are impacted by cancer. Whether they are dealing with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer or the death of a loved one.

Assistance includes: events and programs designed to connect peers in similar situations, free counselling and individual support, 24/7 online support services for young people and parents, information and resources and specialist support services for young cancer patients.

Head and Neck Cancer Australia

Head and Neck Cancer Australia is dedicated to providing education and support to people living with Head and Neck Cancer. Find information that helps you to understand your diagnosis/prognosis applicable to your type of cancer.

The Leukemia Foundation

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with blood cancer, we’re here as Australia’s only dedicated blood cancer support service. Our experienced team will help navigate the emotional, physical, and psychosocial challenges of a blood cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Services include: Online blood cancer support service, accommodation in Perth and other states during blood cancer treatment, transport to and from appointments, information and education services, emotional support services, practical support services (addressing bills, household duty assistance, childcare needs), health and wellbeing support, grief support, support groups and advocacy.

Myeloma Foundation

Myeloma Australia is the only Australian myeloma specific not-for-profit organisation. They exist to support, educate, inform, empower and bring hope to people who are living with myeloma, and their loved ones.

They also raise community awareness and understanding of myeloma; educate health professionals involved in the care and treatment of those living with myeloma; advocate for improved patient access to the latest treatments at affordable prices; and facilitate myeloma research in Australia.

Ovarian Cancer Australia

Services include: Teal Support Program (free access to specialist ovarian cancer nurses), counselling, carers support, evidence based and specialist support resources, helpline, advocacy to government and other advisory bodies in the ovarian cancer space

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

Australia’s leading community-based organisation for prostate cancer research, awareness, and support. Offers services including: specialist nurses, telenursing service, counselling, support groups and MatesCONNECT peer support program.

Pancare

Pancare Foundation is dedicated to improving outcomes for those affected by upper GI cancers including pancreatic, liver, stomach, biliary and oesophageal cancers.

Contact their free telehealth service for information and cancer care support including: practical support (including some financial aid towards travel, parking and accommodation for remote patients traveling for medical services). The Pancare website includes many resources to assist you through different aspects of your treatment and cancer journey.

Red Kite

Red Kite aids families with children up to and including the age of 18 diagnosed with cancer of any type. The support is flexible, confidential and free to anyone connected to a child with cancer. Available services include: childhood cancer support specialists, support groups and programs, practical information and resources and financial assistance contributions (towards bills, fuel, food and funerals). Partnering with Coles, Red Kite also offers the Dare to Dream Scholarship.

Mummy’s Wish

Mummy’s wish helps manage the distressing burden of cancer on mums and their families by providing practical, tailored support during the entire treatment journey. This support gives the gift of time to mums with cancer so they can focus on what’s most important, being a mum.

Subject to funding availability, support may include: care packs, recordable comfort bears for children, cleaning services, healthy meals, grocery and fuel vouchers, counselling and information resources.

Dreams 2 Live 4

Dreams2Live4 makes dreams come true for patients who are living with metastatic cancer (meaning any cancer which has spread), relapsed lymphoma, relapsed leukaemia and high grade brain tumours. Applications can be made online.

Kyle Andrews Foundation

The heartfelt aim of The Kyle Andrews Foundation is to bring joy and happiness to children with serious or life-threatening illnesses. They also understand how hard it is to deal with serious illness for families. The camps and holiday homes provide much needed respite for families.

Carer’s Gateway

Carer Gateway provides a range of free services and support just for carers. Services are delivered in-person, online and over the phone.

Services include: Peer support groups, practical supports (e.g. planned respite and transport services to assist you in your caring role), counselling, professional coaching, online courses and emergency respite.

Carer’s WA

Carers WA is a non-profit, community-based organisation and registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of the estimated 230,000 unpaid family carers living in WA.

Services include: Carer Gateway Services, social support, carers in employment program, carer representation, hospital program and carers retreats. Assistance is also available in the areas of: wellness at home, young carers, policy, advocacy and research.
