Late last year the Reach Us team were honoured to once again be chosen as the recipients of funds raised by the DVFRS at the Rio Tinto Kids Xmas Party. Reach Us and DVFRS volunteers worked together on the night to feed the hungry hordes delicious burgers and hot dogs.
Early in March DVFRS and Reach Us families had a social get together over a few drinks and nibbles where the DVFRS crew presented us with a cheque for an amazing $8000! Not only were we blown away by this massive donation, we also learnt that the DVFRS group are not only local heroes but also have seriously good cooking skills way beyond burgers and sausages.
With this years event raising a massive $8000 it means the partnership between DVFRS and Reach Us has, in the past two years, raised over $14500 which has gone directly back into supporting our local community members and families living through the impacts of cancer.
DVFRS Treasurer Brett Slater said “Reach Us holds a special place in DVFRS’s heart as many of us have been personally touched and impacted by the influences of cancer, which is typically made more difficult due to the remoteness of living in the Pilbara. We are excited to continue our collaboration with Reach Us and to continue to support and assist the Pilbara community in this manner.”
Our Reach Us support service provision increased by 350% last year. With Grant and corporate funding for support service provision being very hard to come by we rely heavily on fundraising and donations to provide these services free of charge to our clients. The support of the DVFRS means a lot to us as we know it is a collaboration we can rely on to bring in funding that can be utilised to pay for these much needed support services. Having the backing of a fantastic group like our local firefighters also means the world to us as it shows that the community appreciate and understand the importance of the work we are doing.
Thankyou to all the Team and families at the Dampier Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service for your support. Local legends!
Thanks also to McDonalds Karratha for donating all the fresh produce for the hamburgers! Much appreciated.
